Bishop Ward asks for prayers as leadership teams and the Annual Conference Planning team meet today.
Grace and peace to you in the name of Jesus Christ.
The Cabinet and Leadership team and Planning Committee for Annual Conference are all meeting today in Garner. By the Discipline of The United Methodist Church, the Cabinet is designated as the Leadership Team of the Annual Conference and indeed we work it that way.
Superintendents are assigned particular responsibility for districts, however, we work together in the appointment of pastors in the missional leadership of our Annual Conference and in giving direction to our shared ministry. I give thanks for the collective wisdom, the communal spirit, and the deep spiritual grace that comes to us through each of the superintendents who now serve in the North Carolina Annual Conference – Edie Gleaves, Ray Broadwell, Ken Locklear, Linda Taylor, Carol Goehring, Gray Southern, Randy Innes, and Gil Wise. Please continue to pray for these leaders among us.
The Leadership Team with a capital L and a capital T is also meeting today. This group expands the Cabinet with key leaders on the Annual Conference staff. In this way, we are able to talk together about the programming, the financial strength of our Annual Conference, and the ways in which we need to focus and grow together.
The Annual Conference Planning Committee is meeting today. This is a group described by our Conference rules who are given the responsibility for planning the Annual Conference session each year in June. In June, the Annual Conference session will be held again in Greenville and over four days, we will attend to our life together – worshiping, learning, serving, connecting, electing delegates to General and Jurisdictional Conferences in 2020 and going forth to serve Christ in strength.
In all of these ways today, we are embodying the connection that is The United Methodist Church.
Thank you for your prayers today and every day as we live in Christ forward together.
