Watch Bishop Ward’s video on the third week of Advent. The transcript is listed below.
“Advent joy to you as we continue the holy journey toward Christmas. The third candle of Advent is lit for joy.
This stable was created as a Christmas gift by my husband, Mike, and our son, Jason. He was a small boy, approaching five years of age. It was a secret and his dad had instructed him not to let me know what they were doing. They worked on it at a place in the house where I was not to go.
But Jason would continually come to me with questions like this: “Mom, would you be happy if you got a manger scene for Christmas? Would you be glad if you got a manger scene for Christmas? What would you do Mom if you got a stable for Christmas?”
He knew my love of nativity scenes and I remember, after all these years, the way in which he leaned toward Christmas that wonderful year.
The stable and the figures which will soon enter it as Christmas nears, graces our home year by year, and the memory of the precious gift, the gift of the Christ Child to us, who puts in our hearts, the joy of giving as well.
As we enter into this holy season of gift receiving and gift giving, may we know the true joy of Christ, the one who comes to us, fills us so our hearts overflow out into the world.
Joy to the world, the Lord soon comes. Let us receive our Savior.”
