Dear United Methodist friends in Christ,
You are in my prayers today as you lead in your church and community. Together we pray for Bishop Paul Leeland, our friends in Charlotte and the Western North Carolina Conference.
I offer this prayer and urge unceasing prayer for our communities, our state, our nation and our world.
With gratitude for the ties that bind us in Christ,
Hope Morgan Ward
Eternal and Generous God, we pray with heavy hearts for
our friends and neighbors in Charlotte:
We pray for the family of Keith Lamont Scott and for all who are
wounded and grieved by gun violence. We lament death,
division, accusation, hostility.
We pray for police officers, elected officials and all civic leaders
in our communities. Give them wisdom, integrity,
patience and perseverance.
We confess the divisions that persist in our communities and our
hesitancy to engage beyond the comfort of our familiar circles. We
ask for forgiveness, trusting in your mercy and grace.
Jesus Christ, our Good Shepherd, heal us and guide us to be
leaders toward reconciliation, restoration, justice, peace and joy,
We pray for ourselves and all people of faith in North Carolina,
for unity and mercy and hope as we live in these challenging times.
Give us grace and courage, through the power of the Holy Spirit,
to live as your people day by day, through these days of challenge
with enduring hope.
With grateful and hopeful hearts, we pray. Amen.
