Rev. Dr. Jennifer Copeland, newly appointed director of the North Carolina Council of Churches, took the stage on Saturday morning to bring greetings from the Council of Churches. Dr. Copeland invoked Genesis, Exodus, and 1 Corinthians as she encouraged churches to be leaders in the care of the environment and wise use of energy, to be welcoming to the resident alien and advocating for their children, and to make ways for all people to have the ability to eat multiple fresh fruits and vegetables every day.
She also reminded the Conference that, as communities of faith we must “care for the environment because it has been entrusted to us by God, care for each other because God commanded us to, and to care for ourselves as those created in the image of God.”
Bishop Hope Morgan Ward celebrated the inheritance of a catholic spirit that we have in Methodism as she prayed blessings on Dr. Copeland and her leadership of the Council.
