Local Church Young Adult Ministry Information Requested

Uncategorized Comment Now

We are in the process of creating a network of United Methodist Churches in eastern North Carolina who have ministry specifically to, with and for young adults (18-35).  The purpose of this network is to help direct young adults seeking a church home to congregations that are prepared to engage them.  We also hope that this network will be useful in fostering mentoring relationships with other local congregations who are attempting to reach out to young adults in their communities.  Please take a moment to give us some information about your church and ministry:

We’ll be collecting responses to this survey through January 31.  Thank you!

Reflections from Exploration

Exploration is an event offered by the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry for high school seniors and college students exploring a call to ministry.  Several college students from the NC Conference attended – with funding assistance from the Board of Ordained Ministry and Young Adult Ministries.  David, one of the students who attended from the UM Campus Ministry at UNC-Chapel Hill offered the following reflection:

I learned even more than I expected from Exploration 2009 in Dallas, TX. I have a solid understanding of the options available to ordained United Methodist clergy. I also learned about the experiences of young adults in ministry and the financial aid available to Divinity School students. I am grateful for these new pieces of knowledge yet I also must express my greatest takeaway from Exploration: how big my call to ministry is. I learned that the church needs a fresh interpretation of Scripture, a dynamic style of worship combining tradition with modernity, and a message of sincere service to the local and global community. All this must come from this and the next generation of United Methodist clergy, who must be willing to endure the trials of ordained ministry. I thank the conference for sending me to Dallas so I could learn how God-sized my call really is.
