Wil and Yolanda

Greetings from Costa Rica!  We hope that this update finds all of you doing well.  In January we started work on our first project of 2013.  We’re building two Sunday school classrooms, a church kitchen and a battery of bathrooms at the church in Pavones.  The congregation has been forced to meet for the last three months under a tarp in front of the parsonage because the existing facilities were not up to the Health Ministry’s specifications.  We have already re-wired … Read More at Costa Rica Mission Projects.

10 Fold – Join us in Planting new Churches!

Posted under: Church Construction Ministry, Global Outreach

In its third week, 10-fold.org concentrates on Mission Initiatives of the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church.  Mission Initiatives primarily involves the starting of new churches in places where the United Methodist Church is new to the population.  Nearly 400 new churches are being planted in new places through Global Ministries’ mission initiatives in Cambodia, Cameroon, Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan), Honduras, Latvia, Lithuania, Malawi, Mongolia, Russia, Senegal, and Southeast Asia (Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam).

Local churches can be a part of this movement by supporting and learning from these vibrant congregations through a church-to-church partnership with the In Mission Together program.

The In Mission Together program facilitates church planting abroad by developing partnerships with local congregations in the US. A partnership covenant is created between the two churches, which fosters mutuality and respect for each other. This is important because both will be transformed and energized by this faith-building experience.

  • The average age for a pastor in a Mission Initiative is just 35 years old.
  • Church planting efforts have been initiated in over 25 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe, and Latin America.
  • All 50 US states are represented in the In Mission Together church-to-church partnership program, which connects US churches with new church plants in Mission Initiatives around the world.

Visit 10-Fold.org and register your interest. You’ll be able to help secure tangible support for each project. With one click, you can trigger a US $1 donation, up to US $10,000 for each project.

Be counted and be a part of a movement that multiplies God’s work, 10-Fold!

Church Construction Update! Volunteers Welcome!

Volunteers work at St George UMC, Maxton, NC. NC Conference Board of Missions Inc. church construction ministry.

St. George UMC – Maxton … a great volunteer driven outreach ministry of the NC Conference Mission Team/Board of Missions.  Please come and join us!  To do so, please contact JP McGuire at:  (919) 920-7282 or jpmcguire@nccumc.com

A word from JP McGuire, NC Conference Lead Contractor – WOW! – what an incredible two weeks.  Volunteers and crew after crews on-site – and we have really moved forward.  The “crowning glory” was the participation of an UMVIM-South Carolina team from Bethany UMC in Summerville, SC this past Friday and Saturday.  This team of 11 contractors came to Maxton and got almost all of the OSB wall sheathing done and about 1/2 of the ceiling 2X4 purlins installed.  That saved me about 3 weeks of regular labor.  They were joied by a couple of volunteers from St. George UMC itself + 2 volunteers from New Hope UMC in Rowland + 1 volunteer from Beauty Spot UMC.  The St. George congregation provided lunch on Friday and the New Hope congregation provided lunch on Saturday.

This is what I wrote on my facebook page regarding this weekend:
Where do I see the face of God?:  -  When 11 people travel 3 to 4 hours to work at hard labor in the reconstruction of a church for a congregation they do not know, for no compensation, and they do so merely because there is a need – a need which their skills can answer, where God’s people are one-in-harmony, I see the face of God.

In addition to the OSB work, other work done:
New roof installed; new brick steps and wheelchair ramp built in front; all walls insulated; plumbing and electrical rough-ins completed; and framing, electrical, insulation (wall) and plumbing inspections all passed.

Posted under: Church Construction Ministry, Local Outreach, Missions

The door is a custom built, 4’ wide, solid red Oak with tempered glass, leading between Sanctuary and the new Narthex.

We, in the Board of Missions, Inc., Church Construction Ministry, including so many of you who volunteer your time and talents, continue to be engaged with local congregations, building the buildings to build the Kingdom!

At Trinity UMC in Louisburg, we ended the week with all of the suspended ceiling installed and all of the interior trim completed – installed and painted.  The tile floors are completed as well.

The 20’ high Narthex vaulted ceiling is Supported by embedded fluted columns.

The end truly seems to be in sight! – at least with Phase II.  The carpet goes in on December 6.  While the sub-contractor is installing the carpet, volunteers will be working on trim remodeling in the old foyer and completing some electrical and HVAC connections.  The exterior railings are in the process of being manufactured and installed – but with the change in the weather, the subsequent painting may be a bit delayed.

Our anticipated work schedule is:

Monday, Dec 13 through Friday, Dec 17: 8:30-5:00

We would love to have your participation!   Call JP to schedule volunteering: 919-920-7282.

Completed earlier in the fall, new ramp and sidewalk provide full access for people with limited mobility!

The Trinity project is currently our most active project.  We have completed the addition of a new Fellowship Hall and the renovation of the kitchen and bathrooms.  A new Narthex has been added, and now we are in the midst of the finishing touches in the Narthex – as well as conducting renovations in the adjoining Education Wing and the Sanctuary.

In the week prior to Thanksgiving we installed the tile floors in the Narthex and Foyer, along with wall trim work.  We began installing the suspended ceiling in the hallways.  Most of the interior has Read more »
