The aim of national cultural diversity observances is to acknowledge the past achievements and contributions of a particular racial or ethnic group in an effort to raise awareness of the group’s identity in the public discourse. But what about those racial/ethnic groups who are still fighting “to be seen” and acknowledged for their contributions in the world, and in The United Methodist Church? Many Asian Americans within the Church want to be visible, want other folks to know their identities, and want equal opportunities to participate in worship and ministry, but are finding it extremely hard to do so.
