Connections: Advent 2013 – Week 2

In this video, Bishop Ward talks about peace during the second week of Advent.

In this second week of Advent, we walk in the light of the candle for peace; for peace.

The text from Isaiah beautifully sings, the lion shall lie down with the lamb, the leopard shall lie down with the kid, and a little child shall lead them. And, from the Epistle lesson, welcome one another, just as Christ has welcomed you.

These are peaceful passages of scripture, which invite us to be peacemakers in this holy season. Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, will soon be born into our midst. We bear Christ in the world, whenever we reach across divides, whenever we are willing to forgive one another, whenever we work for restorative justice in our world.

Advent is a time to call again to ourselves that ancient name for Christians. They were called in the very earliest days, children of peace.

In this season of Advent, may we know ourselves as those who have received the peace of Christ, and may our lives embody peace in the world. Even as we pray for God’s will to be done on earth, even as it is in heaven.

Grace and peace to you, this Advent.

Thanks Bishop Ward for this important message of peace. I am convinced that if we want to bear the light of Christ to the world we must get uncomfortable by reaching across the social barriers we have created. Jesus prayer in John 17 shows that the world will know that Jesus was sent by God by our unity. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
